The Latvian Film Council – a public advisory institution for the Minister for Culture of the Republic of Latvia, – has been established to ensure implementation of the principles of democracy within the administrative field of the film industry and to promote the development of the national film art.

The main tasks of the Film Council:

  • To assess and project strategic perspectives of the film industry within a broad cultural-political and socio-economic context;
  • To cooperate with the Ministry of Culture for the development of the industry’s strategy, formation of the budget and investment policy, preparation of the draft laws and other laws and regulations;
  • To assess the operation of the audio-visual sector institutions and provide proposals for their improvement;
  • To analyse issues connected with the film industry and to provide proposals on solutions.
