At Anilogue International Animation Festival 2026 on March 26 and 27, animated films by Latvian directors that have gained audience recognition in many countries of the world will be shown in two programs "Latvian Focus".
The Anilogue International Animation Festival is one of the most important animation festivals in Central and Eastern Europe, taking place at the end of March in Budapest, Hungary. The festival was founded in 2002 and has since become a regular annual event that attracts both professionals and animation enthusiasts from all over the world.
The festival's programs include both animated short films and feature films, covering a wide range of animation – from autorkino and experimental animation to industry works and student films. The central part of the programme is the European animated short film competition, in parallel there are master classes, workshops and conceptual additional events – exhibitions, concerts.
This year, the festival will also highlight Latvian animation more broadly – two screenings of short films are planned, which will reflect Latvian animation through the years, different techniques and stories.
The first screening on March 26 will feature the short films Veterinarian / Veterinārārsts (2007, by Signe Baumane), Swan Maiden / Gulbju jaunava (2020, by Kārlis Vītols), Kafka. In love / Kafka. Iemīlējies (2024, by Zane Oborenko), Comeback / Atgriešanās (2020, by Vladimir Leshchiov), In the Pipe / Trubā (2020, by Jurgis Krāns), Cleanliness / Tīrība (2025, by Andrejs Brīvulis), In the End / Beigu Beigas (2023, by Linda Stūre) and Night Walks / Nakts Pastaigas (2018, by Lizete Upīte).
Second screening on March 27 – films by Edmund Jansons Freeride in C / Brīvais nobrauciens (2024), Choir Tour / Kora turneja (2012) and The Isle of the Seals / Roņu sala(2014), as well - Priorities / Prioritātes (2014, directed by Gints Zilbalodis), The Garden of Fetish / Fetišu dārzs (2006, by Kārslis Vītols), Wings and Oars / Spārni un airis (2009, by Vladimir Leshciov), It's About Time / Laiks iet (2015, by Ivo Briedis), Debris / Gruzis (2023, by Ilze Ance Kazaka), IMG_00:01.JPG (2014, by Zane Oborenko) and All My Friends are Dead / Visi mani draugi ir miruši (2019, by Nils Skapāns, Anna Zača). Also on the evening of March 27, Latvian and US co-production, the animated film for adults by brothers Laura Ābele and Wright Ābele Dog of God / Dog of God (2025) will be screened.
