From 21 to 27 June, one of the world's largest animation festivals will take place in France – the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. In the "Annecy Presents" section of the festival program, the feature animation "Born in the Jungle" by Edmunds Jansons will have its premiere. At the film market MIFA Latvian animation will be represented by directors, studio representatives and other industry professionals.
For the 67th time in June, the French city of Annecy will become the epicenter of animated art, bringing together thousands of animation lovers, artists and industry representatives at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and film market MIFA (Marché international du film d'animation, June 23-26 this year). The event, known as the Mecca of animation arts, serves both as a prestigious staging point for work in international circulation and as a valuable platform for the development of emerging projects. For the eleventh year already, Latvian animation authors and projects are also represented in this important forum. On Thursday, June 25, director Edmunds Jansons' latest full-length work, Born in the Jungle / Laimīgie, a family film produced by Atom Art (Latvia), co-produced by Letko (Poland) and Hausboot (Czech Republic), will celebrate its world premiere, which will take viewers large and small on an exciting adventure in the thickets of Venezuela's rainforests. The film is scheduled to have four screenings at the festival, selected for the non-competitive program section Annecy Presents, which highlights the diversity of the international animation landscape, offering a wide audience a special selection of full-length works in which the collected works are united by a strong author's handwriting.
Latvian animation will also be represented in the parallel film market MIFA. As part of the CEE Animation network of animation professionals, Anete Melece's upcoming short film Sunshine for All / Saule spīd visiem will be presented to a curated audience. The ironic 2D animated short film reveals chaos in the flat world after stealing the sun.
Representatives of the National Film Centre of Latvia, the Latvian Animation Association and the studios Atom Art, Locomotive, Sunday Rebel Films and Ego Media / Bivrost Film will also attend the film market to develop future professional cooperation in person and continue to promote Latvian animation and future animation projects. Continuing long-term cooperation with colleagues from Estonia and Lithuania, representatives of the Baltic States will also be able to meet at the Animated Baltics stand at the film market this year.
The Annecy International Animation Film Festival will take place this year from 21 to 27 June, and the film market MIFA from 23 to 26 June. The Latvian animation representation in Annecy is organized by the Latvian Animation Association with the support of the National Film Centre of Latvia and the State Culture Capital Foundation.
