LV cinema attendace 2025 - MarketShare

According to data compiled by the National Film Centre of Latvia (NFC), 2025 marked a record-breaking year for Latvian cinema. For the first time, the national cinema market share exceeded 24%, and four Latvian films ranked among the ten most popular films in Latvian cinemas.

More than 2.16 million tickets were sold in Latvia in 2025, an increase of nearly 70,000 viewers compared to the previous year, despite a rise in average ticket prices. Latvian films attracted 523,775 viewers, confirming their growing popularity amid strong international competition.

For the second consecutive year, the most watched film in Latvian cinemas was Gints Zilbalodis’ animated feature Flow (2024). Following major international awards in early 2025, the film experienced a renewed surge in popularity, reaching a total of 377,577 viewers in Latvia to date. Flow also achieved significant success abroad, ranking third among the most popular films in Estonian cinemas in 2025.

Three additional Latvian films joined Flow in the national top ten: Dzintars Dreibergs’ historical drama Escape Net, Oskars Rupenheita’s crime-stylised film Red Code Blue, and the comedy Parents’ Meeting directed by Marta Elīna Martinson.

Despite this success, the National Film Centre notes that funding for Latvian cinema remains among the lowest in Europe, posing challenges to the long-term sustainability of the industry—even as Latvian films continue to resonate strongly with audiences at home and gain international recognition.
