Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (Ji.hlava IDFF, Czech Republic) on October 30 will have its world premiere of Dāvis Sīmani’s latest film Death of Deah / Frankenstein 2.0, produced in studio Ego Media. The film is included in the festival's competition program "Testimonies", dedicated to a bold and personal search for cinema.

The Jihlava Film Festival in the Czech Republic is one of Europe's most prestigious documentary film forums, this year it takes place from October 24 to November 2. Death of Death will be screened on October 30 and November 1.

In the Testimonies section of the Jihlava Festival, Latvia is also represented by the documentary film Podnieks on Podnieks. Witness of Time / Podnieks par Podnieku. Laika liecinieks by Anna Viduleja and Antra Cilinska, and had its Czech premiere on October 25.

The idea of Death of Death has its origins  in the COVID-19 pandemic – a period when feelings of loneliness, fear and awareness of human mortality grew. The authors of the film – director Dāvis Sīmanis, co-author of the script Uldis Tīrons, cinematographer Andrejs Rudzāts – went on an existential and at the same time ironic journey of exploration to find out whether science and new technologies can really prolong a person's life or even overcome death.

From an initially seemingly serious study, the film's shooting turns into an absurd, fascinating odyssey through the USA, Russia and Europe, with the filmmakers encountering scientists, technology pioneers and self-proclaimed prophets of immortality. Addressing the obsession of modern society with immortality, the film at the same time does not allow to draw hasty conclusions about a future without aging and death.

The film is produced by Guntis Trekteris, it is a Latvian-Czech co-production, supported by the National Film Center of Latvia and the Czech Film Foundation. The film will be shown in Latvian cinemas at the beginning of 2026.
